Rennersistas - Waiting For Tom Rot 2020
Burgenland | red, dry |
Good things come to those who wait. Spicy, fruity and beautifully elegant red that's even happier with a little chill.
Waiting For Tom Rot is a blend of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and Pinot Noir from biodynamically farmed vineyards in Burgenland. Half of the grapes fermented as whole bunches, while the other half were destemmed. After spontaneous fermentation, the wine spent a year ageing in used oak barrels and a clay amphora. The result? A delicate, juicy and spicy red with plenty of elegance, best enjoyed with a little chill. And who on earth is Tom? The name pays tribute to winemakers Tom Lubbe and Tom Shobbrook, who inspired Rennersistas, while also giving a little wink to Beckett's Waiting for Godot.

Stefanie and Susanne Renner aka Rennersistas, two young sisters from Gols in Burgenland. Recently their young brother George joined the team too!
They make small quantities of great wines at the Renner family winery, and their labels with tractors are hard to miss on Instagram. The name of line “Waiting for Tom” was introduced as small tribute to two key (and untimely) Toms form their internships: Tom Lubbe of Domaine Matassa, natural pioneer in Roussillon, France, and Tom Shobbrook (Tommy Ruff) who has a similarly legendary status at Barossa Valley, Australia. Well, for legends you have to wait sometimes. Btw, Susanne is also the life partner of the natural wine star Claus Preisinger, so it's no wonder that sisters are not afraid of longer macerations and avoiding sulfites at all. Super juicy stuff they make, believe us!
